Australia currently has a shortage of medical professionals, especially in the regional areas more so than the major cities. Like all countries, Australia has its own healthcare standard and registration requirements with state and national registration councils and credentialing bodies.
To work in Australia you MUST hold current registration in the Australian state that you wish to work. Each state in Australia has its own registration board however a national body is being introduced in 2010 for most professions. You also need a valid Australian working visa in your South African passport or Australian or New Zealand passport. In most cases, we will need to find an employer to provide you with a visa. This is called workplace sponsorship please ask your recruitment consultant regarding this.
Many applicants also are required to sit the IELTS (International English Language Test) to be eligible for both registration and a working visa. Even if English is your first language and you are fluent in it sometimes will not give you exemption. Due to recent changes with the Australian Medical Council regarding Imternational Medical Graduates, it is most likely that you will be required to sit some examinations.
